Damage writers and insurers have always battled over the cost of repairing damage.  After the industry graduated from hand-written estimates based on printed estimating guides and moved to computerized estimates, the issue of what is included or “not included” in the crash book, times for parts replacement, as well as paint & materials, has been a constant topic of disagreement.  The key to an accurate, timely, and safe repair is to begin the process with a complete and accurate report of all damage, all necessary repair or replacement operations, and all parts and materials required to perform the repairs after compete disassembly.  The key to being paid correctly for the repair is for the damage writer to understand which operations are included in listed labor times and which are not included that must be separately written and negotiated.  In this edition of IMPACT Collision Solutions, we will review how damage writers can write and negotiate more effective and accurate damage reports.
